Celebrating Excellence: That Brown Girl Cooks and the Spirit of Black History Month

At Total Party Planner (TPP), we are privileged to work with an array of talented and inspiring catering businesses. Among them is the extraordinary “That Brown Girl Cooks!“, a dynamic culinary venture led by the passionate and talented Kristi Brown. Known for their innovative soul food creations and a deep commitment to community, That Brown Girl Cooks! exemplifies the rich tapestry of Black culture and heritage.

A Culinary Journey Rooted in Heritage

Kristi Brown’s journey is one of passion, resilience, and an unwavering love for her culture. Her culinary creations are not just food but a celebration of Black heritage, storytelling through flavors, and an embodiment of generational wisdom passed down through recipes. That Brown Girl Cooks! stands as a testament to the power of food to unite, inspire, and celebrate identity.

As Black History Month approaches, it’s an opportune time for caterers to reflect on the significance of this month and find meaningful ways to honor it through their craft.

Reflecting and Celebrating Black History Month in Catering

Embrace the Stories Behind the Food: Black History Month is about celebrating the rich history and achievements of Black individuals. Caterers can highlight traditional dishes with origins in Black culture, sharing the history and significance behind each dish. This not only educates but also honors the roots from which these recipes emerged.

Collaborate with Black-Owned Businesses: Partnering with Black-owned businesses can amplify voices and showcase a diverse range of culinary talents. This collaboration can lead to events or menus that are both inclusive and celebratory of Black culture.

Support Community Initiatives: Engage with local communities by supporting events or charities focused on Black empowerment. Caterers can offer their services for community gatherings, fundraisers, or educational events that highlight Black history and culture.

Share Stories: Use your platform to share stories of Black chefs, historical figures in the culinary world, and the evolution of Black cuisine. This storytelling can be done through blogs, social media, or newsletters, creating a deeper connection with your audience.

The Impact of Celebration

Celebrating Black History Month is more than just an acknowledgment; it’s a chance to deepen understanding, show solidarity, and honor the profound impact of Black culture on the culinary world. By taking the time to reflect and celebrate, caterers can create meaningful experiences that resonate beyond the plate.

That Brown Girl Cooks! exemplifies how food can be a powerful medium for cultural expression and celebration. At TPP, we are proud to support such incredible clients who inspire us with their dedication to their craft and their communities.

During our recent attendance at the MIBE Summit, part of the TPP team had the privilege of hearing from Adrian Miller, a renowned author and culinary historian. His insights into the history and impact of Black cuisine left a profound impression on all of us. Adrian’s education and storytelling reminded us of the deep roots and cultural significance that Black culinary traditions hold.

As we approach Black History Month, let’s take inspiration from Kristi Brown, Adrian Miller, and others like them, using our platforms to honor and uplift Black culture through the universal language of food.
